Flores de Mayo KKPM Style

True to their devotion to the Blessed Mother, the KKPM celebrated Flores de Mayo on May 7, 2016 at St. Rene Goupil Catholic Church. The celebration started with a Rosary Procession, followed by a Holy Mass and culminated with a fellowship.

Witnessing this beautiful Filipino tradition, I felt like I was back in my hometown once again. It brought back memories of my childhood years. This is a wonderful tradition that we need to pass on to our children. But how do we do that? Do we teach them the true meaning of this wonderful practice of honoring the Virgin Mary? Do we explain to them why we celebrate this Filipino tradition? Is this merely a tradition for us or a loving devotion?

Honoring the Blessed Mother is more than just having the colorful festivities. It is truly about our commitment to follow her example. As we say “AVE MARIA”, we repeat the Angel Gabriel’s greeting, “Hail Mary, Full of Grace”. She was chosen among all women for her obedience, humility and trust in God. These are the virtues that we hope to emulate. And who can better teach us how to love Jesus more but His Own Mother? So we ask for her intercession be like her in loving Her Son. This is why we hold our devotion to Mary, Queen of heaven.

As our children understand the true meaning of our devotion to the Blessed Mother, the more likely they will be encouraged to continue this beautiful tradition of “Flores de Mayo”.Ω
